APT (advance packaging tool):

As part of its operation, Apt uses a file that lists the 'sources' from which packages can be obtained. This file is /etc/apt/sources.list.

To update the cache of repositories:

 apt-get update

To update your system:

 apt-get upgrade

Install a package:

 apt-get install package

To clean your system:

 apt-get clean

To search in your repositories:

 apt-cache search package

Uninstall a package completely with all the config files:

 apt-get remove --purge package 

or if just want do remove the package but keep the confg files:

 apt-get remove package

Options:

 -s: simulated what apt will do
 -f: fix-broken, apt try to fix the errors of dependency of the package.
